The Fond du Lac police department has a new tool to help fight crime and protect the community. Police chief Bill Lamb says the department recently obtained a drone and eight officers are being trained as pilots. Lamb says the drones could be used in a variety of scenarios to protect the public. Lamb says the drone is equipped with a thermal imaging camera which will help during the search for missing persons, especially at night. The chief says police could also use the drone for tracking down suspects who have fled on foot. The Fond du Lac city council recently passed an ordinance that adopts state law addressing the use of drones by private citizens. Under the ordinance it is a misdemeanor to operate a drone that invades the privacy of another individual.
