WFDL news has learned that renovation work at the historic Hotel Retlaw in downtown Fond du Lac will begin next week, with a grand opening planned for this fall.  On AM 1170s Between the Lines program, owner Dennis Doucette said the renovation  work will start next week now that the interior demolition work is done.  “All the furnishings are gone, all the carpeting and wall coverings have been stripped away.  Right now its down to the bare concrete,”  Doucette told AM 1170s Between the Lines program.  Doucette says a grand opening originally planned for August has been pushed back to this fall.  He says the delay is due primarily to meeting historic standards for the hotel windows.  “The manufacturing of the windows has taken a longer time frame then we anticipated,”  Doucette said.  “They had to clear approval by the National Park Service.  We had some revisions that had to be made.”   Doucette says in addition to a new first floor and lobby, the individual hotel rooms are also being completely redone.  “The individual rooms have pretty much been gutted,”  Doucette said.  “There’s nothing we wanted to maintain.  We’ve knocked some walls down to make some larger suites.  The guest rooms are stripped down to the bare concrete and they’re all going to be rebuilt from scratch.”    Included in the renovation will be a farm to table restaurant, espresso café and wine bar, a relaxation pool and luxury spa.  Other plans for the $25 million renovation include a lobby bar, player’s club game room, second floor outdoor patio and a grand ballroom that can accommodate up to 300 people.   Doucette will make the official announcement at an event at 4pm Thursday afternoon at the Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts. The event will be streamed live at radioplusinfo.com.
