A Waupun man has been charged in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash that happened nearly two years ago. Fifty eight year old James Jensen made his initial Fond du Lac court appearance Monday on charges of second degree reckless homicide, homicide by negligient operation of a vehicle and recklessly endangering safety. Bail was set at $10,000 cash. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 10. Sheriff’s captain Ryan Waldschmidt says Jensen was the driver of a car that collided head on with another vehicle on Highway AW near Waupun in November 2016. Twenty three year old Brock Hoekstra of Waupun was killed in the crash. He was a passenger in a car driven by his mother, 52 year old Debra Hoekstra of Waupun. A second passenger in the car, 17 year old Austin Burckhardt of Waupun received serious injuries in the crash. Jensen was also seriously injured.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
