Utility work is scheduled to begin this week in preparation for the County Highway V reconstruction project in Fond du lac County. Starting Thursday, Highway V will be closed to through traffic for approximately eight weeks, and will be closed to all traffic at the Fond du lac Avenue intersection. A detour will be posted directing traffic to use Highway VV and Fond du Lac Avenue during utility work. Mail delivery, garbage and recycling collection would continue as usual. The highway construction project is anticipated to start sometime in May.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
