A Fond du lac man convicted in a fatal pickup versus pedestrian crash has been placed on probation.  At a sentencing hearing Thursday afternoon Fond du lac Judge Richard Nuss withheld sentence and placed Peter Anderson  on probation for three years with four months in the county jail.  Last month Anderson pleaded no contest to operating a motor vehicle without a license causing death.   Anderson struck and killed 54 year old Jeffrey Koenigs of Fond du Lac, while Koenigs was crossing South Park Avenue near Second Street a little more than a year ago.    Fond du lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says Anderson  never should have been behind the wheel in the first place because he did not have a valid drivers license.  “Jeff’s death is a tragic loss that shouldn’t have happened and is a reminder of the incredible responsibility we all undertake when getting behind the wheel of a vehicle. No judicial sentence can bring Jeff or any loved one back and the Koenigs family has my deepest sympathies as they mourn the loss of Jeff,”  Toney said.  Sara Koenigs, the wife of Jeffrey Koenigs stated:  “My family has been through a lot.. a fraction of which would break most people. We’ll get through this together, the same way we’ve faced our other tragedies. That being said I’d like to say that if one positive thing could come of this— I hope that it is a reminder to everyone that when you get behind the wheel of a vehicle you are literally taking people’s lives into your hands. It is a great responsibility. Please drive safely.”    Before handing down the sentence judge Nuss said there was nothing to suggest Anderson’s driving was impaired and that it was a terrible tragedy that never should have happened.
