Fond du Lac residents are invited to gather in a near downtown neighborhood park this weekend for a winter celebration. It’s the first Fond du Lac Winterfest at Hamilton Park. Fond du Lac Community Development Director, Dyann Benson, says several family-oriented activities are planned including a fruitcake toss. “January 3 was fruitcake day and so we wanted to celebrate all the joys of fruitcake!” Benson says she hopes Winterfest becomes an annual event. Winterfest is free and open to the public from 10am to 2pm Saturday.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
