A new president and a new effort by supporters to recognize the heroism of Fond du Lac native James Megellas. Republican congressman Glenn Grothman has introduced legislation to award Megellas the Medal of Honor. The bill authorizes and requests President Donald Trump to award Megellas with the United States’ highest military honor for the courage he showed during World War Two. Megellas’ heroics came during the Battle of the Bulge when he stopped a German tank in its tracks with a hand grenade…something that was accidentally omitted from the original citation. Grothman says Megellas’ heroism saved countless lives and stopped the advance of enemy troops without thought of his own life. “I hope that my colleagues can come together in a bipartisan manner to recognize that Mr. Megellas is a true American hero who deserves to be awarded the Medal of Honor.”
