Fond du Lac County has a new sheriff and is extending well wishes to retiring veteran law enforcement officer. Fond du lac judge Peter Grimm administered the oath of office to Ryan Waldschmidt during a special ceremony on Western Avenue Monday afternoon. Waldschmidt replaces Mick Fink who retired after 38 years in law enforcement. Dozens of past and present law enforcement officers including former sheriffs Jim Gilmore and Gary Pucker gathered outside the Sheriff’s Office Monday afternoon for the ceremonial ramp walk. Fink was first elected sheriff in 2006. Waldschmidt has been with the department since 1998, moving steadily up the ranks, and promoted to captain two years ago. He ran unopposed in the November election.
