A town of Eldorado native is continuing the effort to try to prevent violent out of county sex offenders from being placed in a house in the neighborhood where he was raised. Dan Degner delivered a petition Wednesday to the state Department of Health Services signed by town residents asking the state to remove the controversial Nitschke Road house from the Chapter 980 sex offender housing system. “We had over 1200 signatures, just people from the community absolutely amazing in support of this,” Degner told WFDL news. Degner says he wants lawmakers to close a loophole in state law that requires sex offenders to be at least 1500 feet from a building where children are present. Degner says a family with young children live only 800 feet from the house, but the rule doesn’t apply because the property lines don’t touch. The issue came to the forefront last year when the state placed a violent sex offender from Racine County at the Van Dyne area home.
