With the coldest days of the winter in the forecast for this weekend the Fond du Lac Salvation Army says there is room at the warming shelter. Salvation Army Social Services director Ron Jacobson says even with below zero weather this past weekend, the shelter was only about half full. This weekend the overnight lows are expected to be in the teens below zero. Meanwhile, Jacobson says the shelter is also in need of volunteers. “Every night we can always use another hand or two helping the people who come to the shelter,” Jacobson told WFDL news.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
