Fondy Cardinals Hockey fans and Arrowhead Warhawks are in for a night of fun
and goodwill when the two teams face each other Saturday, January 26 at the Fond
du Lac Blue Line Family Ice Center. Not only will they be able to enjoy a good
game of hockey, but with the donation of three non-perishable food items they’ll
get free admission to the game and have a chance to win a number of great prizes
donated by the local business community, all while supporting “Hungry Hippos On
Ice” presented by Cardinal’s Nest, the advanced marketing and entrepreneurship
students, at Fond du Lac High School (FHS).
Last year’s “Hungry Hippos on Ice” generated such great excitement and fun for
everyone that this year’s students are highly anticipating another successful
event. Delegates from the freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior classes will be
battling for bragging rights when the Hippos challenge kicks off at center ice
between the first and second periods of the game. Scooping up as many balls as
possible, the students will be launched to the middle face-off dot in hopes to walk
away with the most balls and the trophy. For every ball that is scooped up by the
winning team, the Cardinal’s Nest will be donating $1 to the Fondy Food
Pantry. In addition to the hippo donation, all food brought to the game will be
donated to the food pantry as well.
Fans are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the game. With the
donation of three items, fans will receive free admission. In addition to free
admission, fans will receive one raffle ticket for every additional food item
donated. The raffle ticket provides them with a chance for many great prizes
donated from the local business community with the drawing held between the
second and third periods. The more that is donated, the greater the chance for fans
to win. All monetary proceeds from the raffle will be donated to Waters
Elementary School to provide students with new playground equipment.
“I think this is going to be a lot of fun for both the students and for fans,” said
Jennifer King, marketing and business teacher at Fond du Lac High School. “Each
year my senior marketing students adopt a local elementary school as well as
create a number of events that include fundraising efforts for various non-profit
groups in the community. Hungry Hippos is a hearty form of entertainment at the
game while supporting two big initiatives of this year’s seniors.”
The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, the 26th, for the varsity hockey game,
5:00 p.m. for the JV. General admission tickets are $4.00 for the game but will be
waived with the donation of three non-perishable food items. As always, FDL
School District students with a student ID and seniors over 62 get in for free.
Hungry Hippos Raffle tickets at the game are 2 for $1.00 or 15 for $5.
