The “Paper Airplane Distance Challenge” is coming to the Fondy Cardinals
basketball games on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Acuity Fieldhouse at Fond
du Lac High School. In this double header game with the boys varsity team
playing at 6:00 p.m. and the girls varsity team following, there will be a
number of family-friendly activities and events throughout the night including
the “Paper Airplane Distance Challenge” and the “Fold ‘N Fly Airplane Toss.”
Supporting the “Old Glory Honor Flight’s” 10th Anniversary, all proceeds from
the night will be donated to provide war veterans from Northeastern
Wisconsin the opportunity to fly to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials
dedicated in their honor. In between the two basketball games, finalists from local schools will compete in the distance contest. There will be one declared elementary winner, one middle school winner, and one high school winner for throwing the farthest distance within the specified boundaries. Those winners will receive a prize
pack from the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Throughout the
games fans will be able to purchase paper airplanes and then fly them at halftime
for a chance to win a variety of prizes on the court. The closest airplane
wins and all dollars will go to Old Glory Honor Flight. “We’re really looking forward to this night because I think it’s going to be fun to see the different events happening on the court, but as a group we’re really proud to recognize the Old Glory Honor Flight organization,” said Courtney Legge, a senior marketing student at Fond du Lac High School. Admission to the basketball games is free for all FDL School District students. Adult tickets cost $4 and seniors 62 and older are free of charge. Tip-off for the boys’ game is at 6:00 p.m. with the girls game following.
