MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Attorney General Josh Kaul has filed a request with the Legislature to withdraw Wisconsin from a multi-state lawsuit seeking repeal of the federal health care law. The letter comes after Kaul told Gov. Tony Evers he could not fulfill his request to get out of the lawsuit. Kaul said that power rests only with the Legislature’s budget committee. That Republican-controlled committee is unlikely to side with Evers and end Wisconsin’s involvement in the lawsuit.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
