Two men escaped injury early Saturday morning when their vehicle broke through thin ice on Fox Lake. Fox Lake Fire Chief Aaron Paul says the men were in a full size pick up truck with plow when it broke through the ice near Maple Point. Paul says there was open water from Elmwood Island toward Maple Point and Clausen Park last week, and also an ice heave. Both men were given a ride back to the boathouse from another fisherman. Chief Paul urges those who are venturing out onto local lakes to make contact with the local bait shops or business owners that might be aware of dangerous areas on the lakes.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
