The cold weather is blamed for causing a power outage in the village of Brandon this morning. Fond du Lac County Emergency management director Bobbie Hicken says the outage was reported shortly before 6am and power was restored about an hour later. Hicken says the Brandon Fire Department has opened its Fire Department to the public today as a precaution. Waupun city administrator Kathy Schlieve says the city of Waupun is operating with limited services today due to the extreme cold. All Fond du Lac County non-essential offices are closed today. Fond du Lac Postmaster Ken Kretlow says there is no mail delivery today because of the dangerous Arctic air blast.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
