The Fond du lac Public Works director says his biggest concern during this week’s bitter cold stretch and upcoming weekend thaw is the potential for water main breaks. Public Works director Jordan Skiff says its extremely difficult to make the necessary repairs when its this cold. “Its such an extreme, dangerous situation. Obviously we don’t want residents to be without water and the chances of a water main break are higher when you have extremely cold temperatures,” Skiff told WFDL news.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
