(photo: fdl fire and rescue) A malfunctioning refrigeration unit forced the evacuation of Festival Foods grocery store in Fond du lac Saturday afternoon. Shortly after 12:30pm firefighters were called to a report of smoke in the refrigeration room at Festival. Firefighters were able to isolate the unit which was leaking oil. After about 90 minutes the store had been cleared of smoke. The Fond du Lac Public Health inspector was called to the scene and worked to ensure safety before the store reopened. The store was turned back over to Festival Foods. There were no reported injuries. FDLFR was assisted by Fond du Lac Police. “We were grateful for the calm manner in which patrons and store employees exited the store,” said Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary. “We know the inconvenience today’s incident caused to Festival Foods and their guests. Festival Foods employees did a fantastic job helping us mitigate the emergency.”
