2-19-19 fdl woman enters alford plea in child sex assault case

todayFebruary 19, 2019

A Fond du Lac woman convicted last year of failing to protect a six year old girl from sex crimes and then withdrawing her plea has been convicted of an amended  charge avoiding a trial scheduled to begin Monday.   Ellen Neumann entered an Alford plea to two counts of child neglect.  Charges of child sex assault and causing a child to view a sex act were dismissed and read into the record.    Last year Neumann was convicted on just one child neglect  count.  Under an Alford plea  Neumann doesn’t admit guilt but acknowledges there  is enough evidence for a conviction.   Neumann was one of three people charged in the case.  Shane Berg and Tory Tuinstra were convicted of child sex assault and received long prison sentences.  According to a criminal complaint Neumann forced the child to watch as she and Berg had sex.  Police say the lifestyle in the Ruggles Street house was described as dominance/submissive with everyone wearing dog collars.
