The Fond du Lac County Sheriff is continuing its investigation into a crash involving a milk tanker plunging off a bridge onto a set of railroad tracks. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says investigators are trying to determine if the driver, Paul Hebert, may have suffered a medical condition before the crash Friday night on Highway F in the town of Byron. Waldschmidt says Hebert is fortunate to be alive after the estimated 30 foot drop onto the tracks below. Waldschmidt says Hebert initially called his girlfriend, who in turn called the Sheriff’s Office. “The driver survived the crash and, although disoriented, called his girlfriend and he was dazed and confused and significantly injured, he called his girlfriend and she called us,” Waldschmidt told WFDL news. “He didn’t know where he was and he didn’t know what happened.” Waldschmidt says its also fortunate that there wasn’t a train that time of night. “We contacted the railroad and told them to stop all trains south of Fond du Lac.”
