MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin’s unrelenting winter weather is causing a buildup of snow that’s damaging some farm buildings across the state. Retired agricultural engineer Brian Holmes says that some farm buildings are buckling under the weight of snow because their strength is compromised by typically being older and housing damp environments. Holmes says farm structures are also exempt from state building codes so there aren’t standards for how strong they must be built.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
