The Senate Republican leader says the state budget unveiled by Democratic Governor Tony Evers last week is the most left leaning budget he has ever seen during his time in the state legislature. Senate majority leader Scott Fitzgerald says Evers budget is nine million dollars more than the last budget proposed by former governor Scott Walker. Fitzgerald says the governor’s plan to freeze expansion of the private school voucher program is vindictive. “Probably baggage from his many years at DPI when they were forced to develop rules and develop programs in and around the scope of the legislation that was passed by the Republican legislature,” Fitzgerald told WFDL news. Still Fitzgerald says there are a couple of positive signs in the budget. “The middle class tax cut is in there in a form that I think ultimately could be negotiated back and forth with the governor. He did recognize Act 10 and did not try to repeal Act 10.”
