The Fond du Lac Fire Chief is reminding residents to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when they change their clocks this weekend. Chief Pete O’Leary says the change to daylight saving time is a good reminder to make sure smoke alarms and CO detectors are in proper working order. O’Leary says if your smoke alarm is ten years or older you should probably get a new smoke alarm.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
