The Fond du Lac Police Department has been notified that a convicted child sex offender is being released from prison and is moving back into the community. Police say Jeffrey Abitz will be living at 444 North Hickory Street in the city of Fond du Lac. Abitz served time for manufacture/delivery of heroin. He previously served time for second Degree Sexual Assault of a Child in 1991. Abitz was convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-yr-old female relative of his girlfriend. Abitz is on extended supervision until March 2027. Special conditions of Jeffrey E. Abitz’s supervised release:
1) No contact with victim, no unsupervised contact with minors, no presence in taverns, bars, or liquor stores, and no use of alcohol or illegal drugs.
2) Comply with all rules of high risk sex offender supervision and cooperate with lifetime GPS monitoring, including abiding by exclusion zones of Adelaide Park and Parkside School.
3) Face-to-face contact with law enforcement as required, lifetime registration with Wisconsin Sex Offender Registration Program.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
