Two work release inmates who failed to return to the Dodge County Jail earlier this year are in custody. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says 36 year old Connie Smiley and 39 year old Jennifer Peterson were arrested this week. Smiley disappeared January 30 after failing to return from a preapproved appointment in Juneau. Smiley was serving a 160 day Huber sentence at the Dodge County Jail for Contempt of Court. Peterson was serving a 270 day Huber sentence for Theft-False Representation and was scheduled for release in April.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
