Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources staff plan to conduct prescribed burning on a number of properties in Sheboygan and Fond Du Lac County in the coming months depending on the weather. Prescribed burning is part of ongoing efforts to preserve and restore the landscape found within DNR properties throughout Wisconsin. These burns reduce leaf litter, improve wildlife habitat, redistribute nutrients and help control invasive species. Burning is planned at the Sheboygan Marsh Wildlife Area and the Kettle Moraine State Forest-Northern Unit.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
