4-4-19 hazard mitigation planning

todayApril 4, 2019

Fond du Lac County Emergency Management officials are in the process of updating the county’s hazard mitigation plan.    While a variety of hazards such as tornadoes, floods and other severe weather can’t be prevented, a mitigation plan focuses on reducing the impact of such events when they do occur.  Fond du Lac County Emergency Management director Bobbie Hicken says purchasing  and relocating property in a flood plain is an example.  Hicken says she doesn’t believe there are enough storm shelters in Fond du Lac County for people who do not have basements or a safe place to go inside their residence.  The county is asking for public input on the draft plan.  An open house is scheduled from 6pm to 7pm April 4 at the Fond du lac city-county government center.
