Fond du Lac Public Works says the Hickory Street Bridge over the West Branch of the Fond du Lac River will be closed beginning Monday, May 6. The closure will be in place for up to five weeks to allow the bridge contractor to replace the existing bridge deck overlay. During the project South Hickory Street traffic will be detoured via Western Avenue, Brooke Street, and Military Road. As soon as the contractor complete the work and restoration the bridge will be opened to traffic.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
