The Fond du Lac County Dairy and Livestock extension agent says its great to see more women producers on Wisconsin farms. The latest Census of Agriculture shows the number of female producers on Wisconsin farms increased by 16 percent between 2012 and 2017. Dairy and Livestock agent Tina Coleman says the figures incorporate new data about demographics and the role of producers in making decisions on farms. About 56 percent of Wisconsin’s nearly 65,000 farms had a female producer and 35 percent listed women as a principal producer. Coleman says its important that women are being recognized from a data perspective because the census influences federal lawmakers who allocate funding for farm programs.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
