5-1-19 thiesfeldt-state budget

todayApril 30, 2019

Fond du Lac Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt says the general  feedback he’s getting from constituents is that the governor’s budget spends too much money.    Thiesfeldt held budget listening sessions Friday at the Empire Town Hall and Oakfield Library.   Thiesfeldt says one of the big areas of concern is transportation funding.  He says people are telling him they don’t support the governor’s proposed gas tax increase.  Thiesfeldt says he has concerns about how much the governor is proposing to  spend on education, and specifically special education. “I am okay with a nominal increase in education spending,”  Thiesfeldt told WFDL news.  “…but the numbers that the governor has put in, particularily wanting to spend an additional $600 million on special education services, I agree we need to spend more money on special education, but there’s just no way we’re going to see that kind of an increase.”    Thiesfeldt says he is also opposed to the governor’s proposals to establish a medical marijuana program and to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana.
