Construction on the long awaited Highway 23 expansion project between Fond du Lac and Sheboygan County is getting underway this month. DOT spokesman Mark Kantola says a construction update meeting on work from Sheboygan County Highway P to the Sheboygan-Fond du lac County line is scheduled for Thursday. Kantola says this is the first in a series of projects that will expand Highway 23 to four lanes from near Plymouth to Highway 151 in Fond du Lac. The project has been on hold for four years since the group 1000 Friends of Wisconsin filed a lawsuit bringing the project to a halt. Kantola says construction will begin this month.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
