A long prison sentence has been handed down for a Mayville man convicted of child sex assault. Dodge County Circuit Judge Brian A. Pfitzinger sentenced 31 year old Benjamin Marx to 45 years in prison on charges of First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child and Sexual Exploitation of a Child. Marx will also serve an additional 35 years of extended supervision. Marx sexually assaulted a three-year-old child and video-recorded his crime so that he could view it after the fact. Assistant District Attorney Yolanda J. Tienstra stated, “No amount of incarceration is ‘enough’ for committing such a devastating crime, but this sentence will keep the defendant from harming another child for what may be the rest of his life.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
