The Fond du Lac County executive is recommending against building a regional juvenile detention facility. The recommendation was discussed at the county finance committee meeting this week. County executive Al Buechel says his concern is the cost. Wisconsin counties looking to build regional replacement facilities for the embattled Lincoln Hills youth prison are worried state funding won’t be adequate. Buechel says the number of juvenile offenders in Fond du Lac county is down.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
