The Fond du Lac County Clerk says she is opposed to a proposed bill that would allow people to take selfies with their marked election ballot. Bill sponsor, Republican senator David Craig says showing a marked ballot is a free speech right. But Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Frieberg says while it may sound good on the surface, there are potential problems. “One big issue is when you are taking that selfie, and you’re in the background, and you don’t want your picture on Facebook,” Freiberg told WFDL news. Freiberg says voters shouldn’t be bothered by distractions when they’re voting. “We try to keep the polling place in an orderly fashion, and now we have all these people standing in the middle of the polling place taking pictures with their ballot.” Wisconsin is one of 18 states that has a law barring the showing of a completed ballot. The Wisconsin County Clerk’s Association is opposed to the legislation.
