Fond du Lac Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt says he supports the so called “Born Alive” abortion bill. The bill would require providers care for babies born alive during abortions or face up to six years in prison. Providers who kill babies born alive during abortions would face life. Thiesfeldt says he will vote in favor of the bill. “We had this doctor in Pennsylvania who was getting away with doing this kind of stuff for years before he finally faced his day in court,” Thiesfeldt told WFDL news. Opponents say any doctor who would kill a baby born alive during abortion would be charged with homicide under current law. Dr. Kathy Hartke is the Wisconsin legislative co-chair of the American College of Ostetricians and Gynecologists. “No doctor in Wisconsin is going to neglect or kill a viable baby. That is just unfounded, and it totally undermines the trust the public has in OB-GYNs,” Dr. Hartke said. Governor Tony Evers has vowed to veto the bill if it passes.
