Oshkosh Police are investigating the escape of an inmate from Mercy Hospital last week. Police say the inmate, Martin Fitzgerald, was ultimately located and taken into custody. Police say Fitzgerald had been at the hospital last Thursday afternoon when he assaulted a DOC correctional officer and escaped from their custody. Police say about a half hour later they received a report that a male attempted to steal a vehicle. Fitzgerald was located by Oshkosh Police Officers and taken into custody. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Oshkosh Police.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
