Grand opening and dedication ceremonies are being held Saturday for the Gold Star Memorial Trail in Dodge County. Event organizer Andrew Johnson is a Gold Star father in Mayville who says the trail is dedicated to the memory of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. The ten-foot wide paved trail extends two miles from Mayville’s Theiler Park to the Horicon Marsh Visitor Center. Johnson says the ceremony will also recognize those who helped raise more than $740,000 in donations over the last five years to make the trial a reality.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
