6-4-19 state supreme court justice dan kelly goes “between the lines”

todayJune 3, 2019

Wisconsin Supreme Court justice Dan Kelly says voters have told him they want a judge who is faithful to the constitution and someone who is a public servant.  Kelly announced last week that he is running next year  for a full ten year term on the state’s highest court.  On AM 1170’s Between the Line program Kelly says his judicial philosophy is fidelity to the constitution.  “My job is simply to apply the law as we receive it from the legislators.  And we do that without second guessing, the wisdom or the prudence or the effectiveness of the law,”  Kelly said.  They’ve got the entire legislature to figure out those questions.”   Kelly says when he was appointed to the court by Governor Scott Walker in 2016 he began a conversation with the people of Wisconsin.   Kelly says people told him they want a justice who is a good public servant.  “A good servant does as he is told, and what they told me to do is simply to decide their cases and that’s all, without passing on the wisdom or the efficacy or the laws the legislatures adopt.”    Kelly is currently set to face two liberal backed candidates, Marquette Law School Professor Ed Fallone, and Dane County Circuit judge Jill Karofsky.
