Waupun city officials are reaching out to local and state economic development officials in the wake of news that a Waupun company is closing. Waupun city administrator Kathy Schlieve says employees at Silgan Containers told her the company informed workers Monday the plant would be closing this fall leaving 60 employees without work. “We’ve certainly been in contact with some of our state and local contacts, talking with WEDC and working with our workforce investment board partners,” Schlieve told WFDL news. “We’re a really strong community, a community that is positioned to continued to grow. A great place to live, work and do business. While this is certainly not positive news its not the end of the story for us.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
