The Fond du Lac County executive says a Republican proposal to pay for local road repair would certainly help Fond du Lac County. But County executive Al Buechel says at this point the proposal to tap $133 million in budget reserves to pay for the work is just that…a proposal. “I’m not all confident that’s going to happen,” Buechel told WFDL news. “…based on it was ten senators that came up with that plan and of course you have to get the rest of the senate and the assembly to think this is a good idea.” Buechel says Fond du Lac County would receive a million dollars under the proposal, with additional money for townships. “That definately would give an infusion of opportunity to try to catch up on some of our road maintenance projects,” Buechel said.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
