Two Wisconsin high school students are among five FFA members named U.S. Presidential Scholars. Kartina Eileen Pokorny with the Waupun FFA and Matthew Ryherd with the Reedsburg FFA were recently named U.S. Presidential Scholars, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students for their accomplishments in academics, the arts and career and technical education. They are invited to attend a recognition program June 23 in Washington D.C. where they will receive a Presidential Scholar Medalion.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
