Bail has been set at $100,000 cash for a Madison man accused of trying to kill a Fond du lac man by beating him in the head with a wooden dowel. Forty four year old Cyrus Elworth made his initial Fond du lac Circuit Court appearance Wednesday on multiple charges including attempted first degree intentional homicide, substantial battery and disorderly conduct with use of a dangerous weapon. Police chief Bill Lamb says the incident happened last month at a residence in the 100 block of East Merrill Avenue.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
