7-10-19 fdl fire chief says fireworks injury is a reminder about the dangers of illegal fireworks

The Fond du Lac Fire Chief says an incident this week is a case in point why certain fireworks are illegal.  A 41 year old Fond  du Lac man was transported to the hospital after an illegal firework exploded in his face.  Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says the danger of fireworks can be catastrophic.  “You can lose your life, you can lose a limb,”  O’Leary told WFDL news.  O’Leary says every year  police and fire respond to complaints of  illegal fireworks and this year is no different.  “We’ve had embers from fireworks that have ended up on somebody’s shed or garage.  I saw on social media there was a young man, a former WLA graduate, he had a firework accident where his hand was bandaged up and he was in tough shape.”  O’Leary says the use of illegal fireworks in Fond du lac goes well past the Fourth of July.  “It’s amazing to me some of the heavy artillery that’s being blown up in people’s backyards around this community.  I heard it again last night, police are going to these calls.  Please people don’t use the fireworks.  Its not worth it.”
