A Fond du Lac woman will spend time behind bars for stealing more than $300,000 from an elderly woman in her care. Fond du Lac judge Gary Sharpe sentenced 54 year old Margaret Meyers to eight months in Jail with Huber privileges and ordered her to pay $27,000 toward restitution with an additional $1,000 a month. Meyers earlier pleaded no contest to theft. According to a criminal complaint a credit union noticed “red flags” when Meyer was cashing $750 twice a week from the 97 year old victim’s account. According to the complaint Meyers told a detective that she had a family member with a drug addiction and she was getting threatening phone calls demanding money.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
