All lanes have reopened on Interstate 41 in Fond du Lac following a car fire. Shortly before 7am firefighters were called to southbound Interstate 41 south of Highway 000 for an automobile fire. Upon arrival companies found a fully involved “smart car” with one occupant who had safely exited the car. The vehicle was pulled off on the far right shoulder. One lane of traffic was halted so fire rescue crews could safely extinguish the fire. Fond du Lac County Sheriffs’ deputies were on scene and assisted with traffic and scene management. “Working incidents on the interstate can be very dangerous, said Fire Chief Peter O’Leary. Thanks to our partnership with law enforcement everyone remained safe.” The vehicle was towed away and normal traffic resumed.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
