7-9-19 fdl man injured by fireworks

A 41 year old Fond du Lac man was injured when fireworks exploded in his face.   Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says  the incident happened Monday night at Lakeside Park near Doty Street and Frazier Drive.  "Our paramedics got there and treated the male who was complaining of burns and lacerations to his face.  He had some singed and charring on his clothing,"  O'Leary told WFDL news.   The man was transported […]

7-9-19 uw regents ready to increase student fees

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin System regents are set to increase student fees as well as room-and-board costs for the upcoming academic year.  The regents are scheduled to vote Thursday on a 2019-20 operation budget that calls for raising student fees an average of $36 across the system.  UW-Madison students would see a $170 increase, the largest of any four-year school, bringing their annual fees to $1,452. (AP) — An association representing oil refineries is launching a television ad in four potential swing states criticizing President Donald Trump's moves to expand the use of ethanol in gasoline.  The American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers began running the ad statewide Monday in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Wisconsin. MILWAUKEE (AP) — Gov. Tony Evers has signed a bill to regulate electric scooters on roads and sidewalks.  Under the bipartisan measure , scooters must weigh less than 100 pounds and abide by a 15 mph speed limit. MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) — An aluminum cookware company has closed its Manitowoc plant, eliminating 145 jobs.  Tramontina USA Inc. says it is looking for a company to buy the shuttered Wisconsin facility.   Tramontina cites increasing production costs, higher tariffs and consolidation as factors in the closing.  The Sugar Land, Texas-based company also will cut its workforce in Texas by 100.   The Manitowoc plant closing took effect Monday.  Tramontina says all affected employees will […]
