Investigators have confirmed that spontaneous combustion started a fire at a downtown Fond du lac bar early Monday morning. Firefighters were called to the Top Shelf Bar at 88 South Main Street and found the sprinkler system had extinguished the fire. Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says investigators determined the fire started in a bucket of bar mop rags. Haase says the sprinkler system had extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived. He says its another example of how important it can be to have a sprinkler system in your business or your home.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
