A few years after a proposal to install artificial turf at Fruth Field fizzled, the idea of artificial turf is resurfacing…possibly at Fond du Lac High School. Athletic director David Michalkiewicz talked about the idea at this week’s school board meeting. “There have been organizations we have been in contact with and companies that are willing to support this project, Michalkiewicz told WFDL news. “At this point I have not asked the school board for anything in terms of a financial commitment. What I would like to do is see what options we have out there, what we can look at and then start to move in that direction.” Michalkiewicz says artificial turf at the high school would greatly increase the ability to use the field throughout the school year, compared to the few times Fruth Field is currently used. “The only issue I see with it right now is we only use it 15 times a year. It would be nice to have something that is more useable for the entire district,” Michalkiewicz said. Michalkiewicz says this is about starting a conversation, not a plan of what the district is going to do. He says other districts have benefitted from installing turf fields. “I truly believe and as we look at other schools that have put this in what this would mean for us as a district and as community. We at least owe it to our students that we look at it and have the conversation.”
