A 23-year-old Beaver Dam woman has waived her preliminary hearing in connection with a crash that killed her boyfriend. Cindy Lara Esparza is charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Authorities say she drove her vehicle into the Beaver Dam River while she was allegedly intoxicated last spring. Her boyfriend, Jared Frakes, died following the crash. The charge carries a 25 year prison sentence and $100,000 fine.

A malfunctioning air conditioning system caused some smoke build-up at U.S. Bank in downtown Fond du Lac Friday morning. A portion of Main Street was blocked for a few minutes while firefighters searched for the source of the smoke in the building. The problem was quickly corrected and the street was reopened.
The Fond du Lac Pub Works Department says Main Street in downtown Fond du Lac is closed for a few hours this morning. Main Street between First and Second Streets is closed until 9am. The City Parks Department will be removing trees.
