A Fond du Lac company is saving millions with energy efficiency upgrades. Focus on Energy says MidStates Aluminum has invested in energy efficiency including production renovation that will provide energy and cost savings for years to come. On Wednesday Focus on Energy will present MidStates with a ceremonial incentive check totaling $324,000 for the manufacturer’s efficiency upgrades. Focus on Energy’s John Beard says Mid-States Aluminum Corporation collaborated with Focus on Energy to completely change its manufacturing process. Beard says the company upgraded its aluminum log furnace and aging oven, as well as adding variable frequency drives to better manage energy usage. The company also made energy-efficient lighting upgrades and has more efficiency projects in the works. Annually, the projects will save Mid-States Aluminum $526,283 in energy costs. Over the life of the equipment, the upgrades will save enough energy to power more than 8,200 homes for a full year.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
