Fond du Lac High School officials are closer to capturing a python that escaped from its cage in a science classroom at the high school over the weekend. Principal Matt Steinbarth says it appears the snake crawled into a vent in the classroom. Steinbarth says the hope is the snake will slither back out on it’s own. “That’s our hope. We have a heat source that the teacher uses, we have extra food. We’re doing all those extra things hoping to make it (snake) realize that this is better than up there.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
